Do you know how to crochet?
Do you know what a loom is and what it is for?
Did you know that you can make a coaster out of a bag?
Do you know that you can sunbathe on an eco rag?

One coaster frees the planet for 10 plastic bags. And one woven eco rag for 500 bags. With this, we will house more than 1000 bags that will not be flying on trees, streets and parks. We don’t have time to wait for people to become aware and stop using them.
Do you even know what Polyethylene is? It has been in mass use since 1950. And its key product is a plastic bag. It is a symbol of consumer culture that leaves heaps of waste behind. Polyethylene bags are very harmful to the environment because they do not decompose in nature, and their recycling is expensive and difficult to implement. Because they are light and small, plastic bags often do not end up in the garbage but in nature, where their decomposition takes hundreds of years.
It is estimated that we only use a bag for twenty minutes, and it takes 400-1000 years to decompose. If you take into account the fact that two million bags are used every minute in the world, it is easy to come to the conclusion that we have a big problem. Change starts from the individual, let’s try to solve what we can.
Just a few decades ago, our elders did not use bags. Their experiences can help us adopt an environmentally friendly way of life. That is why craft workshops with adults and children will be organized as part of the Eco Art Fest. We will learn to crochet, embroider, weave, cook, and use harmful waste for good purposes.
The first in a series of craft eco-workshops will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 12 noon, when the guest lecturer will be Ljiljana Dražević. The workshop will be held in Mitrovica, in the Children’s Cultural Center “Kaktus” (Braće Čolaković Street 13).
This year’s, the fourth in a row, Eco Art Fest is realized under the slogan “Reduce, reuse, recycle” (3R – s: Reduce, reuse, recycle). The organizer of the festival is the Mitrovica NGO Art Point “Akvarijus”, and this year the festival is supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC.
